A Tour around The Balkan
A journey around the Balkan
The Balkan Peninsula is named after the magnificent Balkan mountain range dividing Bulgarian territory into southern and northern Bulgaria. The Balkan has had an enormous influence on Bulgarian history. During the five century long Ottoman rule the villages in the mountain skirts preserved the traditional Bulgarian way of life and culture. Because of this, the Balkan is often called “the cradle of Bulgarian national spirit”.
The 19th century Bulgarian national revival originated primarily in several towns in the skirts of the central Balkan. The town of Koprivshtitsa is an excellent example of Bulgarian national revival architecture and has the status of an architectural reserve. The Etara Open Air Ethnographic museum near Gabrovo is the definitive place to see great examples of Bulgarian traditional crafts.
Beautiful nature sites will also be seen. The Ledenica cave and the Steneto Biospheric Reserve in Central Balkan National Park are the gems among them.
The enchanting Balkan mountain, along with the touch of the authentic Bulgarian spirit, delicious traditional cuisine and wines will turn this tour into an unforgettable journey!
